Ammonites were marine mollusks, similar to squid and octopuses, with spiral shells that lived millions of years ago and are now extinct. Their fossils, found in sedimentary rocks worldwide, provide valuable clues about ancient marine environments. The 3D model above represents a living ammonite as it might have appeared millions of years ago; today, we can only find its shell preserved as a fossil.
